As the clock was about to strike four in Ireland, a striking colt by Galileo (Ire) was hammered down to Sheikh Fahad al Thani’s Qatar Racing for €1.2-million Euros to ascend to the throne on the second of two days of selling at the Goffs Orby Yearling Sale. Bidding was steady up to around the €850,000 Euro mark before increasing in €50,000 increments, holding for a second before becoming the second horse at the sale to eclipse seven figures. Further bids in that amount were carefully considered before the winning salvo was launched. Part of the draft of The Castlebridge Consigment as agent for the colt’s breeder Triermore Stud, the May 20 foal is a son of Group 3 winner Sent From Heaven (Ire) (Footstepsinthesand {GB}), herself a half-sister to GSW Above Average (Ire) (High Chapparal {Ire}) from the same Sadler’s Wells sire line as hip 397.
